There are three routes to reach Amarnath cave in 2018 by footpath or Pony. All the starting places are in Jammu and Kashmir district. First and nearest Route by foot or trekking path is from Baltal. Second route preferred is from Pahalgam. Third route will start in Anantnag District.
Baltal to Amarnath Route Map, travel time and distance via Baltal Axis:
This route is called Baltal axis and falls under Ganderbal district. Travelling in this route accounts for total 350 kilometres in Himalayas region. This route is called Srinagar to Amarnath Route. Srinagar has Train, Airport access.
From Pahalgam to baltal is 200 KM. Road transportation is available here. Journey Duration is 5 hours.
Srinagar to Neelgrath is 94 Kilometers. It takes 3 hours duration by Road. Neelgrath has Helicopter facility to Panjtarni. On air time is 10 minutes by helicopter.
Balatal to Domel is nearly 2.75 or 3 KM. An hour time by foot or trekking path. By pony it is 30 min journey.
Domel to Brarimarg is a 6 KM trekking path. It takes 2 hours by a steady walk.
Brarmarg to Holy cave or Amarnath Jyotirling will be 3 hours hill path with 6KM distance between both.
The total distance from Baltal to Holy Amarnath cave is 14 Kilometres with above resting points.
Pahalgam to Amarnath Axis Amarnth Route map 2018:
Any devotee must reach the Baltal entry point to reach Baba Amarnath shiva lingam. To travel by Pahalgam in Anantnag District it is somewhat lengthy.
As we said to reach the Baltal from pahalgam is 200 KM. This route is also termed as Jammu to Amarnath Route.
To reach Khanabal from jammu is 239 Kilometers. It takes 8 Hours by car or a coach.
Next stop is to pahalgam. This route starts from Khanabal to Pahalgam. It is a 40 KM hilltop ride and takes 90 minutes by vehicle.
From Pahalgam to Chandawari is 16 kilometers. It is 1 hour Journey in vehicles. People who like to trek a long foot path of 70 KM to amaranth will start from here. By walk and on Pony it takes 5 Hours. Hills and valleys are very steep here.
To reach Sheshnag from Chandanwari it is 12 kms route. Only foot path and trekking route is available from here. The journey is 6 hours on foot and 4 Hours on Pony or Horseback.
The next destination is Panjtarni. From Sheshnag to Panjtarni route takes 14 KM on steep and danger valley slopes. Hill tops tends to fall and disrupt frequently here. If any rail occurs this will be a very problem for travelers. It takes 8 hours on Foot and 5 Hours journey by Pony.
Panjtarni to holy cave or Shiv ling will be 6 Km distance. It will take 3 hours on foot and 2 hours on pony.
Generally the people or guide will follow us with Pony. They will charge from 5,000 to 12,000 rupees based on route and number of people.
Helicopter ride from pahalgam to Panjtarni will take 15 Min.

I have read about the difficult Routes for reaching Amarnth Cave. The Amarnath Shrine board has released the latest available route to take in this year. I wish travel from Jammu to Pahalgam, and return in Baltal route. Google also providing the offline version of the latest Amarnath Route map 2018.
